And congratulations to everyone who participated or implemented any of our tips. You are now better prepared for an emergency than you were before. Keep it up! Much more readiness information can be found at www.ready.gov or www.beready.utah.gov. These are both great resources!

Last chance! We actually didn't have a single entry for our Week Two challenge, so if you want to still submit, please do. Your chances are excellent. The deadline is tonight at midnight! We'll announce the winners of the Week Two, Week Four, and Monthly challenge tomorrow morning.
Remember, the Monthly challenge prize will be drawn from all the names of everyone who submitted for one of the weekly challenges. If you submitted all four weeks, you'll be entered four times!
Week TWO challenge: Submit a photo of either your 96-hour kit OR your vehicle gas gauge showing your tank is more than half full at https://bcutah.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_06gzmjdkCVRgYCi
Week FOUR challenge: Submit a photo of your cleaned-out gutters, downspouts, drains, and/or canal banks at https://bcutah.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0VbP8vcPajT2Cwe.

Our Emergency Preparedness challenge month is almost over! This month we've talked about community groups that offer aid or help train us for emergencies, and we've talked about three major emergency events that we worry about in this area: fires, earthquakes, and floods.
Why not spend some time this weekend preparing your home and yard for the possibility of flooding? You still have an opportunity to enter this week's drawing by making sure your gutters, downspouts, drains, and/or canal banks are clear so water can freely flow. Take a picture of any of those things and submit it at https://bcutah.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0VbP8vcPajT2Cwe.

Just like most homeowners and renters insurance policies don't cover earthquakes, most of them don't cover flooding from water outside your home. Some homeowners are required to purchase flood insurance because of where they live. Others may choose to for their peace of mind. If you are interested in flood insurance, start at https://www.floodsmart.gov/ to get answers to your questions and find a list of providers.
The challenge for this week is to make sure your gutters, downspouts, drains, and/or canal banks are clear to facilitate water flow. Submit a picture of any of those things at https://bcutah.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0VbP8vcPajT2Cwe.

We talked a few weeks ago about a 96-hour kit or a disaster supply kit. These are typically understood to be suitable for grabbing on your way out of the house in the case of an evacuation. Sometimes, however, you'll have to rely on what you already have at home for several days due to flooding in surrounding areas, utilities being cut off, or higher demand on local stores due to an emergency.
Keep a supply of non-perishable food, cleaning and hygiene supplies, and water—enough for several days for everyone in the household (including pets!).
For this week's challenge, ensure your gutters, downspouts, drains, and/or canal banks are clear. Take a picture of any of those things and submit it at https://bcutah.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0VbP8vcPajT2Cwe.
