It's Peach Days! The biggest event of the year is taking over Brigham City for the weekend, and while the temperatures aren't as hot as they could be, it's still important to stay hydrated and use sunscreen! Stop by the emergency preparedness booth to get a bottle of water, sign up for CERT classes, and learn more about all the ways you can be prepared for emergencies and disasters. While you're there, you can also sign up for Everbridge notifications, which is the first step to entering this week's drawing. They'll have a QR code at the booth, or you can click on this link: https://member.everbridge.net/2746446902198312/new. THEN, fill out the form at https://bcutah.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5oORqacBxFJdbBY. We'll verify that you are signed up and enter you into the weekly drawing.

Do you know someone who has gone above and beyond what is expected in serving the public? Brigham City Corporation is accepting applications for the Jim Davis Extraordinary Service Award. Annually, the Brigham City Council recognizes a Brigham City employee or citizen that has performed extraordinary service to our community. This award is in memory of the dedication and commitment rendered by Jim Davis as Public Power Director and City Council Member. When Council Member Jim Davis died suddenly from cancer in 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution 02-23 establishing the Jim Davis Extraordinary Public Service Award. To nominate an individual for this award, write a short narrative that includes specific examples of how your nominee has gone above and beyond what is expected in serving the public. Submit your nomination by 5:00 pm on September 27 to Brigham City Corporation, Attn: Mayor’s Office, 20 North Main Street, Brigham City, Utah 84302, or email to dpett@bcutah.gov.

When a large-scale emergency or disaster occurs, Brigham City may need to rely on volunteers to help in the response. One of the organizations available is the Medical Response Corps (MRC), a national network of volunteers dedicated to improving health and safety in the community. Our local network is organized through the health department. Find more information, including how you can volunteer, at https://mrc.brhd.org/. This is a great volunteer opportunity for anyone, but particularly those with a medical, public health, or behavioral health background. Just a few days left to complete this week's challenge and enter the drawing. Sign up for Brigham City's alerts through Everbridge at https://member.everbridge.net/2746446902198312/new. THEN, go to https://bcutah.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5oORqacBxFJdbBY and give us your name and email address. We'll verify that you are signed up and enter you into the weekly drawing. Please remember no staking, ropes or rocks will be allowed in the public right of way. Signs will be removed at APPROXIMATELY 3PM on Thursday, September 5. Sidewalk areas must remain unobstructed and clear for pedestrian use. Please be aware that the area between 300 and 400 South, both east and west side of Main Street, will be blocked to public use from Thursday through Saturday, September 5-7. Brigham City will use a variety of communication methods in an emergency. One of those is through our Everbridge notification system, which we use for both emergency and non-emergency notifications. Common questions about Everbridge: * Why do we have to enter our address to sign up? Sometimes we have alerts to send that are dependent on location - if there is a scheduled power outage in your area or if there is a road closure in your neighborhood. Entering your address ensures you receive those. * How can I reduce the number of notifications I get? There are two ways. First, if you quickly respond to the text notification and verify that you've received it, you won't receive the phone call. The second way is to go into your account and change your preferences. Contact Cami Sabin at 435-734-6617 if you want to do this over the phone. This week's challenge is to sign up for Brigham City's alerts through Everbridge. You can choose what type of notifications to receive and how to receive them (pro tip - sign up for email but then choose EITHER text or voice alerts to avoid getting a text and a phone call). Sign up at https://member.everbridge.net/2746446902198312/new. Then go to https://bcutah.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5oORqacBxFJdbBY and give us your name and email address. We'll verify that you are signed up and enter you into the weekly drawing. This week's prize is a collapsible shovel, useful for those automobile emergency kits or to keep with your sanitation supplies. We'll draw the winning name next Monday morning (September 9) and announce it at 8am!

Brigham City Public Power would like to express their thanks to everyone involved with the power outages last night. The wind caused trees to hit power lines, and one was even a Mylar balloon that got stick in the lines. We also had to change out some burning hot line clamps that can cause the power to go out.

Brigham City Public Power is going to be taking the power out on the hill behind the Howard Johnson motel. We have some equipment that needs to be replaced due to the winds that caused the power outage. Our estimated time for the power to be restored will be 4 hours. If there are any updates, please check the Brigham City Facebook page and the Brigham City App.

The unlicensed solicitors are still out in force, and some are even claiming to represent Brigham City in getting fiber internet throughout the community. Brigham City DOES NOT contract solicitors to sell fiber internet, and any solicitor who claims to be contracted by the city is dishonest. Please share this with your neighbors and family members, especially those who are more vulnerable to persistent and persuasive tactics. Solicitors must have solicitor licenses issued by Brigham City. If an unlicensed solicitor comes to your door, please contact Christina Boss at 435-734-6621 during business hours or dispatch at 435-723-5227.
