Memorial Day Preparations at Brigham City Cemetery:

Cemetery crews have begun Memorial Day preparations. Ongoing work includes mowing, trimming and weeding. Please refrain from decorating until Friday, May 22, 2026 as this will assist in the preparation work to be done.

The cemetery office will be open on Memorial Day, May 25, from 9:00am to 1:00pm to assist the community in grave location only. Due to heavy office traffic on these days, Cemetery staff will not be able to assist in family genealogy.

Cemetery regulations require that all flowers, real or artificial, must be placed in a container attached to the monument. Flowers in movable containers must be placed on the headstone or base to ensure easy access for grass cutting. PLANTING OR DIGGING FLOWERS IN THE LAWN IS NOT PERMITTED.

For safety reasons, glass containers, wires, irons, sticks or pegs driven in the ground are not permitted and will be immediately removed.

Questions may be referred to the Public Works Administrative Offices by dialing 435-734-6615.

Please be advised that the City Cemetery will be temporarily closed on Tuesday, May 19th due to scheduled slurry seal maintenance on the asphalt roadways throughout the cemetery.

During this time, all vehicle and pedestrian access will be restricted to allow crews to safely complete the work and to ensure proper curing of the new surface. This closure is necessary to preserve roadway conditions and improve long-term accessibility within the cemetery.

We ask that all funeral services, visits, deliveries, and maintenance activities be coordinated around the closure schedule. Access to the Cemetery will reopen on Wednesday, May 20th at 8am.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this maintenance project. Should you have any questions, please contact Brigham City Cemetery at 435-226-1466.

In last week's city council meeting, there was a discussion about whether and how to move forward with building additional gym space in the city to help address the declining gym space available for our recreation programs.

First thing to understand: this is NOT a full recreation center. It's two full-size basketball courts, also striped for volleyball and pickleball.

Second thing to understand: it won't require a tax increase or bond to build the facility. The mayor plans to fund construction with the regular budget.

The council spent most of the meeting discussing it. We appreciate residents who attend these meetings and share information with the public and we encourage even more of you to come.

For more information and a link to the relevant part of the city council meeting, see the "Indoor Gym Space" section of https://www.bcutah.gov/o/brighamcity/page/now-you-know
