Snowpack and Water Levels

Water is percolating even though we haven't seen much in the way of runoff. We have dropped to about 3,863 acre-feet of water in the Box Elder Creek drainage basin and about 625 acre-feet of water in the Mantua Reservoir drainage basin. We have about a third of the water still in the mountains when compared to this same time last year.

City Response

With less water in the mountains and no real increase in the forecast, we are turning our attention to ensuring we have adequate reserves for the coming irrigation season. We'll allow the reservoir to fill to about 12 inches below spill over the next several days.

Snowpack and Water Levels

The most recent checks on snowpack water took place March 21. We currently estimate 6,648 acre-feet of water in the Box Elder Creek drainage basin and another 1,083 in the Mantua Reservoir drainage basin. Overall, this is about 28 percent lower than the snowpack water at this time last year.

Mantua Reservoir was about 15 inches below spill level as of March 21.

City Response

With warming temperatures this week, City staff decided to draw the reservoir level down to about 22 inches below spill. This will create space in the reservoir to accommodate the runoff we anticipate from early runoff as temperatures warm.

Residents along the creek will see higher levels as more water comes down.
